Chuti Tiu’s ability to completely inhabit a role is at once astounding and hypnotic. Without artifice or pretension, Tiu discovers the truth in each character and shares it fearlessly. Moving gracefully through all mediums and from comedy to drama, Tiu’s range is both admirable and inspired.
Tiu’s acting work in Pretty Rosebud has been widely recognized and acclaimed: Tiu has won the Best Actress award at the 2014 Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema, the Best Performance of an Actor or Actress at the 2014 Action on Film International Film Festival, and Best Actress at the 2014 Women’s Independent Film Festival, along with numerous nominations.
Her first film acting credits include Beautiful, starring Minnie Driver and directed by Academy Award winner Sally Field, and The Specials starring Rob Lowe and Thomas Hayden Church. Other feature credits include the Spirit Award nominated film Rampart with Woody Harrelson, Robin Wright, Steve Buscemi, and Sigourney Weaver, and in The Internship with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. Most recently, Tiu starred in the independent feature Pretty Rosebud, in which she delivers an electrifying performance as a career woman whose unorthodox choices begin to unravel her carefully constructed world.
On television, Tiu has enjoyed numerous guest-starring roles including memorable turns in Chasing Life, The Exes and 2 Broke Girls. Other starring and recurring roles include those on Weeds, The Closer, 24, Desire, Miami Medical and Southland.
While Tiu was busy shooting television shows and films, she was hard at work developing her screenplay, Pretty Rosebud. Frustrated by the stereotypical portrayal of Asians on film and television, she was motivated to write a film that reflected a more accurate and layered depiction of Asian-American culture.
A native of Wisconsin, Tiu hails from Chinese, Filipina and Spanish descent and graduated from Northwestern University. She currently resides in Los Angeles.
